Attached please find a Fleet One announcement for a Racing Clinic / Tactics
Seminar. While our space is somewhat limited, Fleet One would like to cordially
invite J/105 owners from any of your fleets to attend. True, San Francisco is
some distance to travel, but it is a great City, and hotel rates this winter
are rock bottom low. May I suggest that a long weekend here with your "significant
other" enjoying a day of shopping while you attend a world class seminar
is just the thing to cure "other coast" wintertime blues.
By way of background, many of you read my memo to my fleet after the collisions
and general fleet "misbehavior" at our Labor Day NOOD. Earlier last
season, we had organized and put on two excellent evening Rules Meetings, both
of which featured true experts on the Rules, and one even kicked in Gary Jobson
as an extra attraction. The Fleet One Excom was very disappointed in the attendance.
At the Fleet One Annual Meeting, the Fleet overwhelmingly supported "mandatory"
attendance at 2002 rules seminars and a "take-home" exam. Per
the announcement, each day has been termed a "counter" race, with
attendance at both days earning two "bullets" toward our Season Championship.
Failure to attend get, you two DNC's.
Our first day features Dick Rose, who, as most of you know, essentially wrote
the rules. Dick is a Professor at the University of Washington. He will be joined
by International Judge and local Rules guru, Tom Roberts, and Olympian Mark
Reynolds. Our second seminar features an equally superb lineup with Dave
Perry joined by John Craig, current St. Francis Race Manager but previous Canadian
Olympic Coach, and a select panel of St. Francis and San Francisco World Class
sailors.
I hope some or all of you can come for one or both of our sessions.
Email or call me at any time.
