2001 Key West Race Week J/105 Fleet Format

  1. Eligibility: The regatta will be open to current and past J/105 owners and those charter persons (groups) approved by the J/105 National Executive Committee in advance.
  2. Crew: The class weight limit will be waived for this regatta in favor of: A maximum of 6 persons per boat of unlimited weight, no weigh-in will be required, but crew declarations showing crew name, weight, sailing category, are to be submitted to Nelson Weiderman via e-mail or fax (401-783-6863) no later than Jan. 14th, 2001. Crew substitutions may be added to the original crew list with the same information. If non-registered crew substitutions are made during the regatta, they must be approved by a member of the J/105 National. Executive Committee. Noncompliance to this issue will be grounds for protest.
  3. Pros: A maximum of 1 (one) Cat. 3 crew will be allowed per boat if desired. No Cat. 3 crew are to be on the helm while racing unless they are a legal owner of a current J/105. No crew shall be paid to participate in this regatta. Reimbursement for normal travel and living expenses during the regatta is permitted. Cat. 3 participants do not have to show prior J/105 boat or J/105 fleet involvement.
  4. Sails: J/105 Class one design sails with backup spinnaker will be used while racing. Sail declaration forms shall be submitted no later than Jan. 14th, 2001 to Nelson Weiderman via e-mail or fax (401-783-6863). Patches will be affixed to the tack of the primary spinnaker for the week. It is each participating owner/charterer's responsibility to acquire such a patch from the designated regatta measurer (TBD). The deployment of of a backup spinnaker will be according to National Rules and Technical Committee Interpretations. No sail substitution will be allowed for the mainsail or jib during the regatta, unless approved by the designated regatta measurer. Participants are encouraged to have their sails measured during the course of the regatta by the regatta measurer. The regatta measurer can request any sail from any boat to be measured at anytime prior to, during, or after the regatta.
  5. Optional Equipment: The forepeak cushions, stove, and dodger are not required onboard while racing.
  6. Helmsmen: As several boats may have multiple owners aboard, there will be no restriction as to multiple helmspersons during a race. All helmsmen must be Class Association Members per National Rules.
  7. Advertising: No advertising will be allowed on participating J/105s while racing, other than that required by the event organizers.
  8. Handicaps: The handicap for shoal draft J/105s will be 6 seconds per mile over the length of the entire course.
